I Needed to Edit a PDF Last Tuesday. Every Tool I Tried Was Either Paid or Shady.
I had a contract with the wrong phone number. Adobe wanted a subscription. Smallpdf gave me three free tries, then asked for my credit card. Some random site wanted to "upload my file to their server" — no thanks.
So I built this free online PDF editor. It runs here, in your browser. Your file never leaves your device. No account, no watermarks, no limits. You open a PDF, make your changes, and download the result.

What This Tool Actually Does
Cover existing content — draw colored rectangles over anything you want to hide. Old addresses, wrong dates, sensitive info. Pick any color to match the page background.
Add new text — drag an area on the page, then type. English, Arabic, Chinese — the direction adjusts automatically. You control the font size and color.
Delete pages — remove pages you don't need from the document. Changed your mind? Restore them before downloading.
Resize any element — both cover boxes and text areas have four corner handles. Drag any corner to make the element bigger or smaller.
How to Edit Your PDF — Step by Step
- Upload your file — click the red button or drag the PDF into the upload zone.
- Pick your tool — "Box" covers content with a filled rectangle. "Text" creates a transparent typing area.
- Draw on the page — click and drag to define the area. For text, a typing box appears where you can start writing immediately.
- Adjust as needed — drag corners to resize. Click the red × to deselect. Click the element again to re-select and move it.
- Download — hit the green button. Your edited PDF saves to your device in seconds.
Why Edit PDFs in the Browser?
- Your file stays private — nothing gets uploaded to any server. The JavaScript running on this page does all the work locally.
- No software to install — works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Phone or laptop.
- No account needed — skip the signup form. Open the page, drop your file, edit, download.
- No watermarks — the output is clean. Use it for work, school, legal documents, or personal files.
- Your work survives a refresh — accidentally close the tab? The editor restores your PDF and all your edits when you come back.
Tips for Clean Edits
Match the cover color to the background
Most PDFs use pure white (#FFFFFF). But scanned documents sometimes have a slight cream or gray tone. Use the color picker to sample the exact shade — it makes your cover boxes invisible.
Zoom in before placing text on mobile
Tap the + button to zoom to 150% or higher. Positioning text is much easier when you can see the details. The zoom controls are right above the canvas.
Use Undo freely
Every page keeps its own undo history. Press Ctrl+Z (or tap the Undo button) to step back. You can undo and redo as many times as you need.
Verify before sharing
After downloading, open the PDF and check your edits. Cover boxes and text become permanent in the output — make sure everything looks right.
Real Situations Where This Helps
Updating a resume — wrong phone number or old address on a PDF resume? Cover the old info, type the new one. Takes less than a minute.
Redacting sensitive data — hiding a Social Security number, bank account, or email address before sending a document to someone who doesn't need that information.
Correcting a quick typo — your client sent a contract with the wrong date. Cover it, type the correct one, download, and reply within five minutes.
Trimming a long document — a 25-page report but the client only needs pages 3 through 8? Delete the rest and send a clean, shorter file.
Other Tools You Might Need
This editor handles covering, adding text, and deleting pages. For other tasks, these tools pick up where this one leaves off:
- Need the text from a PDF in Word format? The PDF to Word Converter extracts everything into an editable .docx file.
- Going the other direction? The Word to PDF Converter turns your Word document into a standard PDF in one click.
- Working with images inside documents? The Image Converter handles JPG, PNG, WEBP, and other formats.

It deselects the element — removes the blue border and handles so you can work on something else. It does not delete the element. Use the Delete button in the toolbar to remove an element.
